    MER Neurology & Psychiatry for Primary Care 2025


    The Neurology & Psychiatry for Primary Care conference, organized by Medical Education Resources (MER), is scheduled for June 5-8, 2025, and will be held at the Disneyland Resort in California

    Educational Objectives

    Upon completion of this program, participants should be better able to:

    Neurology

    • Utilize prevention and treatment strategies for cerebrovascular disorders

    • Describe the differential diagnosis of headaches and migraines

    • Discuss evidence-based management options for Alzheimer’s disease

    • Evaluate weakness and recognize cardinal features of Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders

    • Perform a comprehensive neurological exam

    • Differentiate weakness from nonspecific symptoms using history and physical examination

    • Explain the differential diagnosis of seizures

    • Compare side effect and pharmacological profiles of anti-epileptic drugs

    Psychiatry and Behavioral Health

    • Recommend appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments for depression

    • Assess patients at risk for suicide and violence, and make timely referrals to address hopelessness

    • List the mental health needs of patients affected by traumatic events

    • Employ effective strategies for managing “the difficult patient”

    • Discuss mood-stabilizing treatments—both psychosocial and pharmacologic—for bipolar disorder, including management of common co-morbid psychiatric conditions

    • Compare the benefits and side effect profiles of pharmacologic treatment options for ADHD

    • Review current evidence-based treatments for anxiety disorders

    • Describe strategies for identifying and treating substance use disorders
