    Overview

    While the emphasis will be on Parkinson’s disease—the most common neurodegenerative movement disorder—other diseases that will be discussed are Huntington’s Disease, Multiple System Atrophy, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, Lewy Body Dementia, Tics and Dystonia.
    Objectives
    1. Discuss and apply diagnostic criteria for Parkinson’s disease.
    2. Identify both motor and nonmotor symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease.
    3. Identify and appropriately recommend treatment options for both early and advanced PD.
    4. Explain how to diagnosis and manage atypical diagnoses such as MSA, PSP, LBD, Tics and Dystonia.
    5. Discuss updates about genetics as it pertains to diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease.
    6. Discuss some of the latest advancements in research, specifically around biomarkers, as well as therapeutics.
    7. List surgical options for management of movement disorders.
    8. Diagnose, manage and identify when to consult specialists for patients with Huntington’s disease.
    9. Consult allied health care professionals appropriately in management of patients with Parkinson’s and other movement disorders.
    10. Identify the therapeutic benefits of exercise and outreach activities for patients with PD.
