• Recognize key principles of musculoskeletal basic science as they apply to orthopaedic surgery
• Describe important physical examination and imaging characteristics that lead to proper diagnosis of common orthopaedic conditions in adults and children
• Apply basic science and clinical research principles in order to arrive at evidence-based treatment decisions for common orthopaedic conditions in adults and children
• Categorize orthopaedic disease severity so as to allow for proper selection of operative versus non-operative treatment
• Summarize common complications associated with treatments offered within orthopaedic surgery and their management
